After the German women's national team returned from the 2021 IIHF World Championship in Calgary this Thursday morning, the focus is on the new season of the DFEL (German Women's Ice Hockey League).
The 2021/22 season starts on Saturday September 25, 2021. In addition to defending champions ESC Planegg, six other teams (Bergkamen, Memmingen, Ingolstadt, Berlin, Cologne and Mannheim) registered for the double round. The season will be interrupted by the Olympic qualification of the German women's national team in November in Füssen and the possible participation of the DEB-Selection for the Olympic Games in Beijing next January or February 2022.
In contrast to last season (Final Four tournament), the league is returning to the play-off mode. The champion of the DFEL will therefore not be decided until April 2, 2022 at the earliest. Places five to seven after the double round will play in parallel in a single round to determine who will be relegated to the regional association (last in the single round).
New this season: All DFEL league games are offered via live stream by various providers. Further information on this will follow.
