The German U20 national team starts the new season on Friday with a multi-day course. U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter has nominated a 28-man squad who are preparing for the three-day Summer Challenge from July 29th to 31st, 2021 at the federal base in Füssen. During the course of the tournament, the DEB-Selection of Denmark, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Audiences are not permitted at the Summer Challenge.
With a view to the IIHF U20 World Championship in Canada (Edmonton / Red Deer) in December and January, the focus of the course will be on rehearsing the game forms and tactical instructions. There will also be individual performance tests on and off the ice. The coaching staff also wants to use the time together to prepare the team for the upcoming tasks.
U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter: “Our basic game system applies to all national teams. Of course we want to use the system as our season highlight at the upcoming World Cup. The players must know what to do in which game situation. At the same time, we will also prepare for the Summer Challenge games and see directly how what we have learned is implemented in the games. It is also very nice for our solidarity to be together for a little more than a week, because team spirit is always the basis for us to play ice hockey successfully. A positive side effect is that we certainly give the boys a little head start when it comes to preparing for the season in their respective clubs.”
