The German U20 national team is about to face its first competitive test of the new season. At the Summer Challenge, U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter's team will get valuable playing minutes at the end of the month in Füssen (July 28th to 31st) for further development and of course with a view to the IIHF U20 World Championship around the turn of the year Canadian Edmonton and Red Deer. For the tournament at the federal base, Abstreiter has appointed a 28-man squad with three goalkeepers, ten defensemen and 15 forwards to the selection of the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund. The DEBteam meets the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Denmark.
The U20 is preparing for the competition days with a multi-day course in Füssen, which is scheduled immediately before the tournament from July 23rd. Compared to the most recent summer course that took place at the end of June, Florian Elias from Mannheim, Simon Stowasser from Bremerhaven and Paul Reiner are new to the squad Berlin. There are ten players from the squad for the last U20 World Cup DEB-Team for the four-nation comparison. Audiences are not permitted to this tournament.
U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter: “We are really looking forward to the first international matches. These will be important international comparisons for us and a good initial assessment of our position. We will see at the tournament what performances we are capable of at this point. I think all teams will come with a good squad and it will be an interesting tournament where everyone can beat everyone. The fact that we are collecting impressions for the World Cup again is part of it and is completely normal.”
