After the women and the U20, the U18 national team is now tackling the 2021/22 season. Led by the new U18 national coach Alexander Dück, the team will meet for a summer camp in Füssen from July 4th to 8th. The highlight of the season for the selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation will be the IIHF U18 World Championships in their own country from April 21st to May 1st, 2022.
At the beginning of August the DEBteam took part in the renowned Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Slovakia; the tournament was canceled last year due to the corona pandemic. There the team will meet Sweden, Slovakia and the USA as group opponents. It is the first time a German team has taken part. Dück will use the training camp at the federal base to get to know each other and get in the mood for the season.
U18 national coach Alexander Dück: “After the difficult last season, the goal of the course will be to get the feeling for the ice. We will focus our training work on the defensive zone and see what condition the boys are in. There are a large number of players who only made between six and nine appearances last season. We also want to convey our values – what it means to play for the national team. Everything we do is geared towards the World Cup from day one.”
