The Deutschland Cup will return to the usual format with four participating nations in 2021 as planned. In addition to the German national team of national coach Toni Söderholm, the teams from Russia, Slovakia and Switzerland will take part in the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund's home tournament from November 11th to 14th. These four teams also took part in the last regular event in 2019. For the Söderholm team, these will be the last international matches before direct preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
After the pandemic-related exceptional situation last November with a three-way format, two German teams and the tournament winner Latvia, spectators should be there again in the Krefeld YAYLA ARENA this year. Information about the schedule and ticketing will follow in due course. The Deutschland Cup will be played in Krefeld this year and next year, MagentaSport and SPORT1 on free TV will broadcast the tournament.
DEB-Sports director Christian Künast: “Our home tournament is an essential component of the season and an important presentation stage for the national team. After the unpredictability of last year, we are looking forward to being able to plan better now and hopefully being able to welcome as many spectators as possible again. This year the tournament has additional significance because it will be an important stage towards the Olympics for national coach Toni Söderholm and the national team.”
