The Women's World Championship in Canada was cancelled the day before the German women's national team was due to depart for North America due to the effects of the corona pandemic. The Canadian Ice Hockey Association received this information from the province of Nova Scotia on Wednesday. At the time of the cancellation, the selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation was in the training camp at the federal base in Füssen preparing for the trip to the World Championship venue Truro and was surprised by the developments. We have to accept the decision as it is. Above all, I feel sorry for the players, for the entire staff, for the coaches who have put a lot into this whole structure, who have given up a lot. That deserves great respect and that’s why I’m deeply sorry for the cancellation.”
Young Talent national coach Franziska Busch: “We were informed in the afternoon. It is extremely disappointing, we were fully prepared to leave and are happy that we got through the difficult preparation so well. We were full of anticipation and energy and highly motivated, which hit us hard. It’s really bitter that the World Cup is being canceled for the second time in a row, when we had to accept so much for it.”
