The German women's national team narrowly lost the second test match for the World Cup tournament in Canada. The selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation lost 16 hours after the 5:1 in the first duel to the team from Austria in Füssen with 2:3 (1:0, 0:2, 1:0, 0:1) after extra time. The goals for the team of Young Talent national coach Franziska Busch were scored by Bernadette Karpf (12th) and Nicola Eisenschmid (57th). Theresa Schafzahl (27th), Lena Kristin Dauböck (38th) and Anna Meixner (64th) scored the goals for the neighboring country.
After Franziska Albl (ESC Planegg) between the posts in game one DEB-Goal, Sandra Abstreiter (Providence College), who is active in North America, received a full-season assignment on Thursday. Before the eyes of DEB-President Franz Reindl and interim sports director Christian Künast tied the knot DEB-Women did not quite match the performance from the evening before and were not strong enough in the final.
After a week of home training, the hot phase of preparation for the season highlight begins on April 16. Until departure for Canada on April 22, the DEB-Women train in a bubble and are then already subject to the testing requirements for the World Cup. Ice training will only be possible at the World Cup venue from May 1st. The start of the World Cup for the DEB-Women will face Japan on May 6th (18 p.m. German time), other opponents in preliminary group B in Truro will be the Czech Republic (May 8th), Hungary (May 10th) and Denmark (May 11th). Shortly before the start of the tournament, a third World Cup test is planned for the German team.
Young Talent national coach Franziska Busch: “We struggled today, the Austrians were definitely stronger than yesterday. We have to learn to do the little things right every time. But we're working on that now too, we still have enough preparation. We also have to make squad decisions for the next phase and will then go in with 25 players and three goalkeepers. Overall, we worked well and intensively throughout the week and will build on that and continue.”
Captain Julia Zorn: “It was generally good that we had another chance to play two games. On Wednesday we found our way well and were able to impose our game on the Austrians, which wasn't the case today. We also didn't take enough chances, and that has an impact. We also made good use of this second phase and are on the right track. Our athletic trainer gave us our training plan for the coming week, so we will continue to work on strength and endurance at home.”
