The German women's national ice hockey team will play two test matches against Austria in phase two of preparation for the World Cup tournament in Canada (May 6 to 16). The two matches will take place behind closed doors on April 7 and 8 at the national base in Füssen, with the training camp running from April 5 to 8 inclusive. Play will start at 19 p.m. on Wednesday next week and at 11 a.m. on Thursday. These are the only two test matches for the German Ice Hockey Federation selection before departure for Canada.
Young Talent national coach Franziska Busch, who DEB- Coaches women at the World Cup on behalf of women's national coach Christian Künast, has nominated 26 players for the second phase. Sandra Abstreiter (Providence College) and Katarina Jobst-Smith (University of Minnesota/Duluth), who are active in North America, are also there. Marie Delarbre (ERC Ingolstadt) is now joining the team after her injury in February.
After phase two the DEBsquad will spend another week training at home before the third phase of World Cup preparation begins on April 16th in Füssen. From then on it is subject DEBThe team has already met the test requirements for the World Cup and will then travel to Canada on April 22. The participating teams will not be allowed on the ice until May 1 after an eight-day individual quarantine in Halifax and Truro.
Young Talent national coach Franziska Busch: “We will now work more on tactical things since we are almost complete - and also try out players in different positions. In the test matches against Austria we want to implement what we have learned and make a difference. It is important that we internalize the guidelines for our system and a focus will therefore be on the power play. We want to deepen, consolidate and gain insight into where there are still problems.”
