Mode adjustment according to quarantine orders: The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund is forced to change the play-offs in the Oberliga Süd to change after corona-related incidents. After positive PCR entry tests at the Blue Devils Weiden and the Deggendorfer SC and the resulting isolation imposed by the respective health authorities, the scheduled pre-play-offs no longer have any influence on the sport, as a total of eight teams now remain in the race for the relay championship title. The second leg between the EV Lindau Islanders and the ECDC Memmingen Indians will still take place on Sunday as planned.
The new circumstances show that both the EC Peiting (7th in the main round) as well as Memmingen (9th) and Lindau (8th) qualified for the play-off quarter-finals. For this special case, the replacement rule for the round of the last eight applies according to the tabular performance in the main round of the South relay, defined by Article 5.3. the implementing regulations for the Oberliga play-offs. The quarter-final series begins from Tuesday, March 23, 2021.
The following pairings resulted:
Quarterfinal 1: Eisbären Regensburg (1st) – ECDC Memmingen Indians (9.)
Quarterfinal 2: Selber Wolves (2nd) – EV Lindau Islanders (8th)
Quarterfinal 3: Starbulls Rosenheim (3.) – EC Peiting (7.)
Quarterfinal 4: Höchstadter EC (4th) – SC Riessersee (5th)
DEB-Vice President Marc Hindelang: “It is very unfortunate that cases occurred in two teams during the entrance tests for the play-offs and that two participants had to be eliminated. On the other hand, this also shows that the procedure was correct, sensible and absolutely necessary to ensure the safety of everyone involved and to protect competition from chain reactions. We hope that these results will remain the same, that we will not have to record any further cases from the quarter-finals onwards and that the decisions can be made athletically on the ice.”
