statement of DEB-President Franz Reindl (Photo: Julian Kröhl) on the current decision of the IIHF world association regarding the 2021 World Cup:
“The decision made today is well considered, consistent and logical. Host Belarus cannot guarantee the conditions necessary to be a worthy host of an Ice Hockey World Cup this year. We in the IIHF Council have dealt intensively with the issue for months, weighed up the pros and cons, received in-depth independent advice and analyzed the situation in all its complexity. Ultimately, this step was without alternative in a very sensitive situation.
We will now continue to look at the various options that are on the table with regard to the 2021 World Cup and will promptly make decisions in the committees that affect the hosting role for this year’s tournament.”
