DEB-Reactions to the election of the athlete of the year Leon Draisaitl

DEB-President Franz Reindl: “The fact that Leon made it into the shortlist was a significant and absolutely deserved award for him. His election as Sportsman of the Year as an ice hockey player and team sports athlete has historical dimensions and crowns his outstanding achievements in the last NHL season. Leon made history, that makes us proud. After silver in 2018 and the honoring of our Olympic heroes back then, this honor is also an incredible, further highlight for the sport of ice hockey.”

National coach Toni Söderholm: “It’s great that Leon’s outstanding performances in the NHL are getting the finishing touch they deserve this year. As an ambassador for our sport, he has won a lot of recognition for ice hockey Germany and we are of course happy about his awards; his years of hard work have paid off. We are also looking forward to the coming year and its further development.”
