The German women's national team's planned international matches against Switzerland this week at the federal ice hockey base in Füssen had to be canceled at short notice. The reason is two positive Covid-19 tests in the Swiss team squad, and numerous teammates of the affected players were also in direct contact. The Swiss were therefore unable to maintain the measure. The games were on three consecutive days on the 17th/18th. and December 19th.
The selection of the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund is now using the time for further training measures. U18 women's national coach Franziska Busch, who is supervising the course on behalf of women's national coach Christian Künast, has therefore nominated a few promising players in addition to the existing squad in order to at least have the opportunity to play internal games. The course will also be shortened by one day and will run from December 15th to 18th. The next national team event with the chance of international comparisons is scheduled for February 2021.
U18 women’s national coach Franziska Busch: “The cancellation is bitter for the players because they have already been waiting ten months for international matches. But it is not an option for us to do nothing. We want to provide another training stimulus before the Christmas break and make the best of this situation. We are now alone in the hall, have the ice to ourselves and can therefore divide up the training very well.”
