The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund eV After the most recent video conference with the upper league teams from the North and South seasons, we met with one Letter to household members of the Bundestag and in this way once again focused on the special situation of the clubs in the highest DEBLeagues alerted. wish of DEB is that the upper league teams are included as eligible applicants in the federal aid package “Corona Aid for Professional Sports”. The DEB described the structural circumstances in the major leagues and explained what the economic indicators look like and how great the dependence on ticket revenue is. It was also explained what overarching importance the upper leagues have for German ice hockey, because the leagues offer important development opportunities for young talent and therefore potentially future national players.
The DEB on a Directive from EU state aid law which currently represents an insurmountable obstacle in relation to applying for grants from the Corona aid package for professional and semi-professional team sports - including for the clubs from the German Ice Hockey League (PENNY DEL), the DEL2 and the Oberliga . In the opinion of the DEB The specific conditions in professional sports are not sufficiently taken into account. Professional sports clubs are subject to a different logic than comparable commercial businesses, as the primary aim is to maximize sporting and not economic success. The issuing of licenses for the 2019/20 or 2020/21 season by the respective approval committee is in the opinion of the DEB and the associations have a sufficient economic criterion for eligibility for funding and we have therefore asked for this situation to be taken into account.
