Women's national team, U20 selection and other young talent teams with courses in Füssen - international tournaments canceled in August
The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund will hold a series of national team events at the federal base in Füssen in August. Following the recent meetings of the Bundeswehr's sports promotion group, these include a first course for the entire women's national team by women's national coach Christian Künast and a course for the U20 national team by U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter. Both teams will meet between August 22nd and 26th. In addition, a measure by the U17 national team under U17 national coach Philipp Kipp is on the program from August 15th to 18th and one by the U16 national team under U16 national coach Thomas Schädler from August 18th to 22nd. Finally, the U26 national team of U30 national coach Steffen Ziesche will also meet in Allgäu from August 18th to 18th.
The courses partially replace planned international tournaments that were canceled due to the current circumstances in the corona pandemic. This applies to the women's national team tournament in Kloten/Switzerland as well as a tournament for the U18 women's national team in Slovakia as well as a four-nation tournament for the U20 national team in the Czech Republic and a tournament for the U17 national team in Zuchwil/Switzerland and a tournament for the U16 national team in Füssen. The courses at the federal base are not open to the public and are carried out under strict implementation of the present hygiene concept.
DEB-Sports Director Stefan Schaidnagel: “It is very important to still be able to offer high-quality courses in this organizationally difficult phase. It is also important to maintain measures to be in a well-prepared state if this season's tournaments go ahead as planned. Nevertheless, it is and remains a major challenge to plan these measures with the current circumstances, as changes have to be taken into account practically on a daily basis. In the previous courses we have succeeded well in implementing it from a sporting perspective, but the discipline of all athletes and staff must also be emphasized - it has been perfect so far. However, due to the changes in infection rates, it was inevitable to suspend the international agreements. This shows how precarious the situation continues to be. It demands a maximum of flexibility from us.”
