Official application planned for 2026, 2027 and 2028 – fiscal year 2020 “with a black zero” or “small surplus”
The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund is financially “on the right track” and takes one new World Cup application targeted. At the virtual one DEB-General meeting on Saturday, the executive committee documented an overall optimistic situation for the top ice hockey association. President Franz Reindl also envisaged an ice hockey world championship on German soil in the 20s. The application should be officially submitted to the IIHF World Association during the current term of office of the Presidium until 2022. “We have decided to make an official application for the years 2026, 2027 and 2028 to submit and bring the World Cup back to Germany. However, this is by no means a sure-fire success, because new markets are also being added in addition to the established ones,” said Reindl.
DEBVice President Berthold Wipfler reported on the 2018 and 2019 balance sheets and gave a cautiously optimistic outlook. “We are on the right track and have now found solid business practices can breathe deeply“, said the treasurer and described the situation for 2020 as solid despite the corona crisis. “We are coming out of 2020 with a black eye. The 2020 financial year “We will end with a black zero, perhaps even with a small surplus,” said Wipfler, for whom the effects of the corona pandemic for 2021 cannot yet be assessed: “The corona consequences cannot yet be foreseen for 2021, that is one Unknown."
Reindl appealed that the corona crisis should continue “in great togetherness” to manage something. At the federal level, the “significant problems” have been identified and the signals are “pleasant”, although it is still “comprehensible” to politicians that the crisis will only really hit ice hockey in September. Ice hockey still has “no prospect of offering its full events again.” “Today,” said Reindl, “we can only hope that we can start the 2020/21 season on time and with spectator participation.”
The DEB-President made it clear that “POWERPLAY 26” “continues to be the great guide for our goals”. German ice hockey has reached an interim goal with seventh place in the world rankings and all national teams at the top level, but is still a bit short of being at the top of the world rankings. “Year after year, step by step, we can and must improve,” said Reindl. The association is “recognized in terms of sports policy” and ice hockey is generally “perceived to be noticeably more present”. In addition, everyone would have DEBinitiatives and the excellent work of the clubs in the young talent sector resulted in “inevitably more and better German players”. “There are now significantly more young German players with the quality to be at the top,” said Reindl.
For the 2018 and 2019 financial years this was DEB-Presidium unanimously discharged without a dissenting vote. Franz Reindl also honored the former head of the women's Bundesliga Marion Herrmann and the chairman of the EHV Nordrhein-Westfalen Rainer Maedge for her many years of service to German ice hockey. Andrea Lanzl was once again honored as Germany's record-breaking national player and Gisela Knöferl and Michael Pfuhl were honored for their 35th and 30th birthdays respectively DEB- Service anniversary honored.
