Munich, April 15, 2020 - National ice hockey player Dominik Kahun is the new ambassador for the Munich Ambulatory Children's Hospice Foundation (AKM). In view of the Corona crisis, Kahun launched the “Kahun fights for children's hearts” fundraising campaign, which quickly raised over 15.000 euros for the AKM Foundation. In the next step, the ice hockey professional decided to commit himself to the AKM as an ambassador in the long term.
“I am very happy that I can be an AKM ambassador and it makes me proud that I can support the foundation on this path,” says Dominik Kahun. The 24-year-old played successfully until 2018 EHC Red Bull München and since then in the NHL (National Hockey League). He has been under contract with the Buffalo Sabers since February 2020. Kahun is also an integral part of the German national ice hockey team and is one of the “silver heroes” of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
“I always wanted to do something like this. When I was a child, I was always happy when players gave me an autograph or a bat. I wanted to give that back one day. And when I looked at who I could help in the current crisis and found out more about the AKM, I immediately decided to support this foundation," Dominik Kahun explains his commitment and already has plans to become an ambassador: " During the season I will be doing a lot on social media. And when I’m in Munich during the summer break, I’m looking forward to meeting the families and children of the AKM in person.”
Christine Bronner, founder and managing director of the AKM Foundation, says: “We are very pleased that Dominik Kahun is supporting the AKM as an ambassador. The fundraising campaign was a huge success and we are very grateful for that. I just think it's great that such a young professional athlete wants to support our families. We urgently need such personalities to draw attention to the important work for seriously ill children, adolescents and young adults. A young athlete will definitely have a lot of opportunities here – and we’re really looking forward to that!”
