The Women's perspective team celebrated its second victory at the Legacy Cup in Gangneung (South Korea). The team of U18 women's national coach Franziska Busch defeated the senior national team of Poland 4:3 (2:1, 1:1, 0:1, 1:0) after extra time.
The DEBThe German team started the match well and took the lead early on through Kelsey Soccio in the fifth minute. However, the German players kept the Poles in the game with technical errors and too many penalties. Kamila Wieczorek equalized the match in the 12th minute with her goal. 72 seconds after the goal, Jennifer Miller had the right answer on the other side and brought her team back into the lead. The Poles repeatedly created danger in front of the German goal with four fast wingers and were rewarded for their offensive efforts: Katarzyna Wybiral equalized the match again in the 24th minute. Ultimately, the German lead again through Lisa Heinz (35th) did not last until the end of the game - the Poles equalized again three and a half minutes before the end of regular time through their captain Karolina Pozniewsk and forced extra time. There, the German captain Jule Schiefer scored the much-celebrated winning goal for the DEB-Selection. The women's perspective team will play tomorrow, Sunday, from 7:30 a.m. against hosts Korea for the tournament victory.
Franziska Busch, U18 women’s national coach: “We struggled today against a very compact and present Polish team. In particular, we must eliminate individual errors. Ultimately, you have to get a game like this off successfully. The team has shown character and we are now looking forward to tomorrow’s final game against Korea, where winning the tournament is at stake.”
The U18 national team also lost their final game at the 4-nation tournament in Slovakia. The team of U18 national coach Steffen Ziesche lost to Belarus 0:5 (0:0, 0:2, 0:3).
In the first part of the game they were able to DEB-Selection created an increase in chances - ultimately they won the goal shooting ratio with 10:5, but were unable to score a goal until the 20th minute. In the middle section the creation of scoring chances was balanced, but it was the Belarusians who finally broke the deadlock in the 25th minute through Oleg Pozhygan. Just two seconds before the second period break, Vitali Antanovich increased the Belarusians' two-goal lead. The 17-year-old increased his goal tally in the final period with goals in the 41st and 58th minutes. German Piragovski also scored in the 56th minute when he was outnumbered. The DEB-Selection therefore has to accept its third defeat at the end of the tournament and ultimately places itself in fourth place.
Steffen Ziesche, U18 national coach: "We were not able to implement our goals today and therefore deserved to lose. We will now carry out a comprehensive error analysis. Some key players were not in our squad for this tournament, but they will of course return. We have already shown that we can be successful. So we now need to look positively to the future."
