U20 World Cup preparation: Defeat in the last test against the USA – final squad announced 

The U20 national team lost its last World Cup preparation game. In Havirov U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter's team ultimately lost 1:7 (0:1, 1:1, 0:5) against the USA despite a committed performance over two thirds. 

In the opening minutes, Hendrik Digit, who moved into the German goal, was the focus of the action. However, the 19-year-old kept a clean sheet when an American attacker went solo and Samuelsson shot. Then it became DEB-Selection courageous and created scoring opportunities and at the same time the sympathies of the spectators Havirov. So had Philip Mass with a slap shot at the schooners of the American Goalies (3rd minute) and Taro Jentzsch with an attempt from the slot (8th) had the best shot-in opportunities. Despite being twice outnumbered, the German U20 national team had to concede a goal shortly before the end of the first third: Cole Caufield placed the puck under the crossbar to make it 1-0 for the USA.

Early celebrations for the German team thanks to the interaction of two Munich players in the middle section: John-Jason Peter used Justin Schütz's cross pass in front of the goal to equalize (23'). Immediately afterwards, the U20 national coach's team even had the opportunity - after penalties from Marcus Wahlstrom and Trevor Janicke – to score the opening goal with a double majority. But Cole Caufield it was the one who struck back for the USA on the other side. In the 35th minute, the 18-year-old took advantage of a rebound History Schooner for renewed leadership. In the final period the Americans were successful five more times. Nick Robertson (47th), Ty Emberson (49th), Oliver Wahlstrom (53rd) and Cole Caufield (54th and 59th) ultimately made the final score 1:7. 

After the last World Cup preparation game, U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter announced the final World Cup squad. Maximilian is not in the squad Glötzl and Simon Gnyp, who will leave the team that evening. “We would like to thank Maximilian Glötzl and Simon Gnyp “Thank you very much for your commitment in preparing for the World Cup,” explained Abstreiter after the game. “Despite not being considered for the World Cup squad, both players will continue to play an important role for the club and national team in the future.” 

The World Cup participants are spending the Christmas holidays in Ostrava, Czech Republic. On December 27th it will be for the DEB-Selection then in the Ostravar Arena serious: From 19.00 p.m. the German team will face the USA in their first World Cup game.  

Tobias Abstreiter, U20 national coach: “Games at this level are always very educational. This is the only way we can develop and make progress as a team. At times we played very well today! But at this level we have to avoid unnecessary penalty times and negligence in defense, otherwise they will be punished by a good opponent.”
