U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter has announced the provisional World Cup squad of the German U20 national team for the upcoming 2020 IIHF U20 Ice Hockey World Championship (December 26, 2019 to January 5, 2020 in Ostrava/Trinec). Three goalkeepers, eight defenders and 13 strikers will travel to the Czech Republic on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. In addition, Moritz Seider will strengthen the team during the World Cup preparations.
“We were able to use the two games against Switzerland to gain a lot of insight for our further World Cup preparations. Due to the good performances of our players, it was very difficult to make the decision for the provisional World Cup squad,” said U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter after the squad announcement. “Tobias Möller, Filip Varejcka and Tim Lutz are still on call. We would like to thank the three players for their achievements and their commitment in preparing for the World Cup so far.”
The German U20 national team will play two more preparatory games in the Czech Republic: on December 21st DEB-Selection in Brno against Finland and on December 23rd in Havirov against the eventual World Cup preliminary round opponent from the USA. Both meetings will take place at 17.00 p.m. After the last two preparatory games, U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter will announce the final World Cup squad, which according to the regulations can consist of three goalkeepers and 20 field players.
