Second victory in the World Cup preparation for the U20 national team. In Leinzerheide, the team of U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter won against the hosts from Switzerland 3:2 (0:0, 2:0, 0:2, 0:0, 1:0) after a penalty shootout.
The German team started the game with commitment - but neither side had any compelling chances to score at the start of the game. In the 11th minute, Nino Kinder looked for the free-standing Tim Fleischer after a counterattack, but he missed the target. It was Fleischer who brought the puck dangerously towards the goal in the 17th minute with a shot, but John-Jason Peterka deflected the shot just past the goal. A short time later, Nino Kinder failed with an attempt at a pawn trick against the Swiss goalie Stéphane Charlin, so that the game went into the locker room goalless.
In the second third they caught DEB-Selection – like the day before – got off to a lightning start. Tim Fleischer took the lead after 71 seconds. The German team then repeatedly put the Swiss under pressure and had the chance to make it 2-0 immediately after a cross pass from Taro Jentzsch to John-Jason Peterka. On the other hand, the Swiss had their best chance to date in the 26th minute when Fabian Berri hit the post. Yannick Valenti did better on the German side - he was suddenly up and running in the same minute and scored the breakaway goal to give the team a 2-0 lead. The Swiss, in the person of Mathieu Vouillamoz, took advantage of the German team losing the puck behind their own goal to score the next goal.
Maximilian Glötzl and Tim Fleischer had German chances to score at the beginning of the final period, but were unable to put the disc in the goal. In the 51st minute, the focus was on Tobias Ancicka, who was there after a shot from Joel Salzgeber. However, the 18-year-old was powerless during the next Swiss attack - Keijo Weibel placed the puck at a right angle and equalized. No goals were scored in regular time or in extra time, so the penalty shootout brought the decision. Julian Mettler and Simon Knak met on the Swiss side. However, Louis Brune, John-Jason Peterka and Tim Fleischer gave the German team their second victory within two days in Switzerland.
The provisional World Cup squad and the further World Cup preparation program for the U20 national team will be announced tomorrow, Sunday.
Tobias Abstreiter, U20 national coach: “We showed a more stable team performance today than in yesterday’s game. Our defense in particular didn't allow much. We were aware that the opponent would be more compact today, but we could have gained a bigger lead, especially in the second third. Ultimately, both victories are okay – we can build on that as we continue to prepare for the World Cup.”
