Inform, talk to each other, discuss and make contacts: Teamsport Germany is once again inviting representatives from politics, business and sport to a political evening event in Berlin invited. In addition to the presidents and general secretaries of the team sports Germany associations, the new DFB president Fritz Keller, who was only elected this fall, and the long-time national handball coach Heiner Brand took part in the event for the first time. Both were available to the guests for a detailed exchange.
The core topic of the evening was the upcoming major international sporting events in team sports. Andreas Michelmann, spokesman for Teamsport Germany and President of the German Handball Federation, presented in his welcoming speech the special importance of major events in team sports for the Federal Republic, society and also the sports associations. He particularly emphasized the importance of a national strategy for major sporting events, which is currently is also developed by the BMI in collaboration with Teamsport Germany. International tournaments in team sports in particular are just as important for social cohesion as they are for the development of the sports. In order to regularly bring such tournaments to Germany, better general conditions must be created overall; among other things, there must be equal conditions for applications for major sporting events. In addition to tax issues, this also included coverage of modern training facilities and popular sports. In this context, Michelmann called for more support from federal politicians for the sports facility infrastructure in Germany and emphasized that a “Golden Plan” was urgently needed to eliminate the renovation backlog. This is the only way to create acceptance among the population for larger sports projects such as the Olympic Games.
In his welcoming speech, the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Stephan Mayer, also highlighted the special appeal of international tournaments in team sports and praised the regular applications and the holding of major international sporting events in Germany in the coming years. These included the DVV men's Olympic qualification tournament next January as well as the FIBA EuroBasket 2021 or the European Handball and Football Championships in 2024. Stephan Mayer emphasized the extraordinary enthusiasm of team sports - especially at the Olympic Games.
In addition, meetings of the Teamsport Deutschland committees took place in the context of the parliamentary evening. Among other things, the future projects and core topics of Teamsport Deutschland were determined in these. A particular focus will continue to be on creating and improving the framework conditions for major international sporting events. In addition, sports facility infrastructure will remain an important area of work. Teamsport Deutschland will continue to be involved in the implementation and further development of the competitive sports reform and will also work to improve the conditions for voluntary work. Overall, the interest group is committed to improving the social importance of team sports in the triangle of politics, sport and business.
