The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund started with two events in the area of trainer training (DEB) into autumn. Taking place as part of the “NHL Global Series Challenge”. NHL Coaching Clinic was already carried out on September 29th. With two high-class speakers from the NHL and national coach Toni Söderholm, further training at an international level was offered to around 30 coaches.
The VBG Symposium took place on October 12th in Herne. The event was held for the second time and conveyed interesting content on the topics of prevention and care.
NHL Coaching Clinic
As part of the NHL game in Berlinwhere the Eisbären Berlin against the Chicago Blackhawks, the NHL Coaching Clinic took place on September 29, 2019. As part of the “NHL Global Series Challenge”, this training was carried out at an international level with around 30 coaches.
As part of the training, three high-caliber speakers were welcomed: Don Nauchbaur (former assistant coach of the Los Angeles Kings), Rob Cookson (former assistant coach of the Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames and Team Canada) and national coach Toni Söderholm. In cooperation with the DEBThe one-day training was organized by the NHL and the NHL Coaches' Association. National coach Toni Söderholm and his national input created accessibility. All participants also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with Steffen Ziesche (U18 national coach) and Tobias Abstreiter (U20 national coach) in the subsequent question and answer session.
The work of Karl Schwarzenbrunner (DEB National trainer for science and training) was crucial, which promoted and enabled the exchange and strengthening in the coaching area of A to C trainers.
VBG Symposium
On Saturday, October 12, 2019, the 2nd VBG Ice Hockey Prevention Symposium took place in the Hannibal Arena Herne. Around 50 coaches, doctors and physiotherapists met for the trainer symposium – initiated by the Verwaltungs-Berufsgenossenschaft (VBG) and the DEB.
After the welcome, the day started with a lecture by Hendrik Bloch (VBG) on the topic “Injuries in ice hockey and options for prevention”. We continued with the topic of “performance diagnostics”, which Dr. Oliver Heine (including the Rhineland Olympic Training Center) went into detail and then Dr. Axel Gänsslen, club doctor Grizzlys Wolfsburg, about the so-called impingement syndrome. After the lunch break, the topic of “medical care” was presented by Dr. Thomas Stock (club doctor Kölner Haie), further. In order not to neglect the practical part, a two-hour workshop in the area of training exercises was carried out afterwards. Before the get-together began, the VBG prevention management tool was presented by Christian Klein.
The following day was dedicated to further training for trainers DEB used to continue the practical part. The newly introduced VBG diagnostics folder and the training manual from Karl Schwarzenbrunner were used.
The VBG diagnostics folder compiles the currently relevant tests from ice hockey and general performance tests and provides an overview of diagnostics in the area of mobility with orientation values for all athletes. Topics such as medical care with first aid and relevant diagnostics on the subject of recovery and stress are also covered.
In the training manual, trainers can obtain valuable tips and exercises in the areas of activation & mobilization, shoulder control, stabilization & strengthening as well as ice hockey skills and cool-down & regeneration. This serves primarily as a preventative warm-up up to the main part, the training time on the ice followed by a cool down.
