The Women's national team lost their second match at the 5-nation tournament in Dmitrov, Russia, narrowly 1:2 (0:0, 1:1, 0:1) against their country neighbours from the Czech Republic. Nicola Eisenschmid played her 100th international match for the German women's national team. The Czechs had more of the game in the first third, as the German team had to survive four games in which they were shorthanded. The tactical instructions were implemented very well, however, and thanks to another strong Jenny Harss in the German goal, the score remained 0:0 until the first break. After another German penalty, national coach Christian Künast's team then had their own chance to put pressure on the Czech goal during the power play. But the shots from the blue line did not reach the goal and the Czech Republic was able to break free again and again. Half of the game was over when Sonja Weidenfelder took heart and put the puck into the net to take a 1:0 lead. However, Natalie Mlynkova had the right answer in the 26th minute and scored the equaliser. Marie Delarbre had the next chance immediately afterwards, but her tip-in attempt was stopped by Katerina Zechovska in the opponent's goal and so the game went into the break with another draw.
Sonja Weidenfelder had the lead again a few plays after the restart, but was unable to put enough pressure on the target. When the German team had to serve another penalty in the 48th minute, Aneta Ledlova took the Czech Republic's first lead. A minute and a half before the end, Christian Künass took Jenny Harss off the ice in favor of another field player, but this measure was no longer successful either and so the German team lost their second game in Dmitrov.
Defeat for them U20 national team. The team of U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter lost to the hosts from Slovakia 2:3 (1:1, 1:1, 0:1). Jakub Minárik gave the Slovaks the lead after 13 minutes. However, Alexander Dersch responded just 32 seconds before the third break after preliminary work from Tim Stützle and Philipp Mass and thus scored the equalizer. While the Slovaks created a significant increase in chances in the opening third, the statistics after the middle period showed an almost even shooting ratio. Things went into the second half evenly balanced as both teams scored another goal each. Dominik Jendek put the Slovaks in front in the 23rd minute - John Peterka equalized the game again for the German team in the 29th minute. In the final section the DEB-Selection was outnumbered three times and allowed the Slovaks a few shot attempts. Adam Paulíny finally scored to give the hosts a 49-3 win in the 2th minute - albeit with the team at even strength.
Second win in the second game for them U18 national team. The selection of U18 national coach Steffen Ziesche won against hosts Denmark 4-0 (3-0, 0-0, 1-0) and can complete the tournament victory with a win against Slovakia tomorrow. After just 140 seconds, Jussi Petersen scored the opening goal for the German team with his own advantage. Fabian Bassler expanded on this in the 11th minute and Maximilian Szuber in the 15th minute, so that the lead went into the first half with a 3-0 lead. The DEB-Selection also created significantly more scoring opportunities in the middle period than the opponents, but after 30 minutes they allowed the Danes to have a power advantage four times in a row, which the hosts did not take advantage of. Maximilian Szuber ended the game with his second goal of the day in the 47th minute.
The U17 national team also put in an extra shift in the second game - Young Talent national coach Thomas Schädler's team lost against Switzerland 3:4 (2:0, 1:3, 0:0, 0:1) after extra time. The DEBThe German team took the lead in the opening period with a double strike by Markus Freis (6th/power play) and Roman Kechter (7th). The German team took advantage of their scoring opportunities and had a response from Maxim Rausch within 33 seconds after Phillip Scharz's goal (48rd). But shortly before the second break, Nathan Cantin scored with his own power play to make it 2:3 for Switzerland (40th). Just ten seconds later, Kevin Nicolet even equalized the game. After an even final period, the second match of the tournament with German participation also went into overtime, where Benjamin Bougro made Switzerland's second win of the tournament perfect in the 62nd minute.
Christian Künast, women’s national coach: “We have shown a significant increase in performance compared to yesterday through better implementation of the tactical guidelines. We have to be even more calm in front of the opponent's goal and make better use of our chances. It was a very close game today against a team that has won all their games so far. In the end, the numerous penalties cost us the game.”
Tobias Abstreiter, U20 national coach: “After a powerful start from the Slovaks, we fought back well at the end of the first third and created good chances. The Slovak goalkeeper made very good saves several times. Unfortunately, we were too vulnerable on defense today. This was one of the reasons why we weren’t able to win today.”
Steffen Ziesche, U18 national coach: “We were able to control the game from the first face-off and set our tone. Overall it was a compact team performance. The special teams in particular worked very well again today and of course we are pleased that we didn't concede a goal. Depending on the outcome of today’s game, it’s all about winning the tournament tomorrow!”
Thomas Schädler, Young Talent national coach: “We showed a better performance today than yesterday. We had slight advantages in the first third and took advantage of our chances. The two Swiss goals shortly before the second third break, which equalized the game, were annoying. In extra time, the Swiss attacker decided the game with a single action.”
