From November 17th to 22nd, 2019 the skid cracks will fight Para National ice hockey team at the home World Cup in Berlin for promotion to the A pool. Reason enough to take a closer look at the sport:
Im Para-Ice hockey's rules, playing area and equipment are in no way inferior to ice hockey. There are two exceptions: The players move around on a sled while sitting on the ice. The playing time is three times 15 minutes instead of three times 20 minutes like in ice hockey. To move and control the puck, the players each have two short sticks with spiked handle ends. Para Ice hockey has been a Paralympic discipline since 1994. Developed in the Nordic countries more than three decades ago, the sport is now played in many winter sports nations. The first German team was formed in Hanover in 1996.
In Germany there are the Ice Lions Langenhagen, the Dresden Ice Lions Sledge, the Wiehl Penguins and the Weserstars Bremen, the ECC Preussen Sledge, the Kamen Barbarians, KEK Köln, ELV Niesky and the Dachau Woodpeckers nine teams. These have become German ParaIce Hockey League (DSL) and run regular games.
