The German U16 national team lost its final game at the 4-nation tournament in Zell am See (Austria). The team of U16 national coach Thomas Schädler lost to hosts Austria 2:5 (0:2, 0:2, 2:1).
The hosts were able to celebrate for the first time in the seventh minute: Marco Kasper gave Austria the lead after work from Jonas Dobnig. As a result, coach Dieter Werfring's team created more chances and were rewarded for it nine minutes after the first goal. David Cernik extended the lead for the hosts to two goals.
In the middle section, the German team exerted significantly more offensive pressure and achieved a shot ratio of 20:13. However, U16 national coach Thomas Schädler's team was unable to put the disc in the goal. The Austrians, on the other hand, increased the score to 3-0 and 4-0 respectively with two more goals from Marco Kasper.
Almost 100 seconds after the opening face-off of the final period, Julian Lutz was able to score the goal to make it 1:4 from a German perspective. Daniel Assavolyuk reduced the score to 2:4 five minutes later. But Vinzenz Rohrer's goal four minutes before the final siren ensured the decision was in favor of the host, who ultimately celebrated a 5-2 win at the end of the tournament.
Thomas Schädler, U16 national coach: “We had a difficult start to the game and fell behind. In the second third there was a clear improvement in performance, which meant that we were able to create a clear increase in chances. However, unfortunately we missed taking advantage of our chances to score. Ultimately, the Austrians' fifth goal in the final period made the final decision. We will now use the coming time to prepare the tournament accordingly. We have to improve in the future, especially in the individual tactical area. Now we are working towards the tournament in Vierumäki in two months.”
