The German U18 women's national team won the preparatory game ahead of the 4-nation tournament in Tomakomai (Japan). U18 women's national coach Franziska Busch's team defeated Japan 5:4 (1:0, 1:1, 3:3).

Japan came out of the locker room better in the second third, but Mara Pieterek in the German box kept her team in the game. In the 27th minute, Luisa Welcke had the best German chance to date, but she aimed just past the outside post. In the 37th minute of the game, Amelie Cyrulies from the blue line took heart, shot and hit the net to make it 2-0. Eleven seconds before the siren, Makoto Ito reduced the Japanese deficit and scored to make the score 2-1 at halftime.
The game picked up pace in the final period. After just under three minutes, Airi Sato equalized for Japan to make it 2-2. The German team responded promptly and scored through Svenja Voigt to take the lead again. Japan took advantage of a carelessness during a German majority situation to equalize again in the 47th minute through Makoto Ito. Less than two minutes later, Annabella Sterzik restored Germany's lead. Four minutes before the final siren, Makoto Ito again scored for Japan to make it 4-4. A minute and a half later, Luisa Welcke's shot from the top face-off circle hit the opponent's goal for a 5-4 win.
