The German U17 national team lost their third game at the 5-nation tournament in Füssen. They narrowly lost to the Swiss 3:5.
The German selection started the game well and took the lead after just three minutes. In the first power situation of the game, defender Freis scored to make it 1-0. But the Swiss fought back and took the lead after a double strike from Marchon and Biasca. Team Germany again scored the final point in the first third, with Hänelt equalizing with 18 seconds left.
Germany also used their first advantage in the second third and it was again Hänelt who shot Young Talent national coach Steffen Ziesche's team into the lead. However, the Swiss stuck with it and also used a majority to equalize, Canonica was the goalscorer.
The game remained even in the third third. The German team survived a two-minute 5 against 3 situation unscathed. But shortly before the end the decision was made in favor of the Swiss selection when Bougro made it 59-3 in the 4th minute. Jabola increased the final score to 3:5 with an “empty net goal” in the last minute.
In a hard-fought game with many penalty minutes, a German player had to go to the penalty box ten times, the German U17 national team ultimately narrowly lost to the Swiss. Nevertheless, second place can still be achieved in tomorrow's final game against the USA. Even before the game, the Czechs were crowned tournament winners with a 6-3 win against the North Americans.
Steffen Ziesche, Young Talent national coach: “Today’s game had both light and shadow. We received far too many penalties and couldn't get our game on the ice the full distance. Tomorrow we will have to concentrate once again at the end of the tournament.”
