Optional training: Today at 9.30 am there was an “optional” training for the DEB-Selection on the agenda. Some players and the goalkeepers took the opportunity to go onto the ice. The other part of the team worked on regeneration in the dressing room and in the athletic area of the arena.

Grubauer and Seider: The players who were last injured were on the ice today. However, it is still questionable whether the two will be able to take part in the final group game against Finland (Tuesday, 12.15 p.m.).

Bratislava: For logistical reasons alone, the... DEBselection is already preparing the "move" to the Slovakian capital. While the team will leave Kosice on Wednesday and arrive in Bratislava in the afternoon, all the material will be transported after the game on Tuesday.

Please smile: Today the IIHF took the official team photo of the German national team in the main hall of the Steel Arena in Kosice. Training then took place in the adjacent hall - which, by the way, is "only" equipped with a much smaller ice surface.

Sauté for Saturday: The ice session in the adjacent hall lasted around 60 minutes. There were also several video meetings today in which various game situations were shown in preparation for opponents Canada (Saturday, 16.15:1 p.m., live on SPORTXNUMX).

Surprise successful: After the victory on Wednesday, team manager Horst Fuchs gathered the team again in the team room of the hotel shortly before midnight. At exactly midnight there was a big cake for birthday boy Matthias Plachta. And of course a serenade from the team.

Of course, there are always a few things to do on the first day that are part of a tournament like photo sessions and setting up your own cabin. At the directorate meeting, the sporting directors had to clarify organizational matters, while the media representatives of the participating World Cup teams were informed about the procedures on match day. There was also a separate meeting for the team doctors with all the important information.

Tournament start: The 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship starts tomorrow. Finland and Canada will face each other in Kosice (Group A) from 16.15:20.15 p.m. In the evening, host Slovakia will start the tournament against the USA (16.15:20.15 p.m.). In Bratislava (Group B), Russia will play against Norway (XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.). In the evening, the Czech Republic will play against Sweden (XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.).

The flight to Slovakia took around 90 minutes. The equipment team has already transported the heavy ice hockey bags to the World Cup venue in a van.

Moved into the team hotel in Kosice: It was at the airport DEB-Selection welcomed by team host Peter Strompf. The journey to the city center took around 20 minutes. A first delegation went to the arena shortly after arrival to initiate the many small organizational things that need to be done before the start of a World Cup.
