The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) continues to drive forward the structural changes in the coaching area of the Young Talent teams. In the future, Thomas Schädler will lead the U16 national team as a full-time coach. The 51-year-old had previously looked after the U18 national team and worked in the Starbulls' young talent area in his hometown of Rosenheim.
Schädler has at DEB Over the past 15 years, he has repeatedly looked after various U-national teams, mainly in the U16 to U18 age range, as a fee-based coach. He worked as the responsible head coach, but also as an assistant coach alongside other coaches. The 51-year-old was an assistant coach at the U18 World Championships in 2007 and 2012 (top division) as well as in 2016 (Division IA) and most recently during the promotion of the U18 national team to the 2019 IIHF U18 Ice Hockey World Championship Div. IA in Grenoble on the gang.
Stefan Schaidnagel, DEB-Sports Director: “With Thomas Schädler he gets it DEB an excellently trained full-time young talent trainer for the U16 national team. As a qualified trainer, Thomas knows about the age-specific skills that are important in the development area between 13 and 16 years of age. Together with the state coaches, he will integrate Germany's best talents into the U16 national team at the interface between the state and federal levels. In addition, he will fulfill the important role of contact person for the state trainers and lead the coordination of content at the state level. We look forward to cooperation!"
Thomas Schädler, U16 national coach: "At the DEB A new challenge with a wide range of new responsibilities awaits me. In addition to the U16 national team, my main tasks also include club support, support for the state coaches and support in coach training. After more than 15 years as a young talent coach at the Starbulls, I wanted to use this great opportunity to develop myself further. The Starbulls will always be my club and I will always be connected to Rosenheim ice hockey. Saying goodbye is not easy for me, but I see the new challenge as a great opportunity and therefore definitely wanted to use it."

We were lucky to have such a coach at our club. The departure hurts, of course, and it's a shame for the location that we're losing him. But for Thomas it is the next logical step and he will be an enrichment for German Young Talent ice hockey and for ice hockey in general in Germany. I wish Thomas all the best and hope that he has fond memories of the Starbulls. We will now work hard to fill the vacant position as quickly and as best as possible.”
