The EV Landshut is champion of the ice hockey league! The German champions from 1970 and 1983 won the decisive fifth final game in front of 2925 spectators at the Tilburg Trappers 4-2 despite being behind twice and were crowned deserved champions at the end of an intense, balanced, high-class and fair final series. So there wasn't a single away win in this series. The Red and Whites had already made their promotion to DEL 2 perfect by reaching the final.
At 22.09:XNUMX p.m. the joy knew EV Landshut and his supporters no longer had any limits. Marc Schmidpeter had just scored an empty net goal to make it 4:2 and removed all doubts about Landshut's great triumph! The final whistle signaled the start of a long and intense night of partying in Landshut and a boozy return trip to Lower Bavaria. Captain Max Forster accepted the championship trophy from the hands of the Tillburg mayor, Stefan Kronthaler uncorked the first bottle of champagne and the brand new championship caps were passed around, as were the obligatory winner's cigars. This hard-earned success had to be celebrated extensively.
“I am totally happy. We had a perfect season. We got promoted and also won the Oberliga championship. Tilburg is an extremely strong team. It was an incredible series with five away wins. I've never experienced anything like that either. Of course I'm even happier to win against such a strong team," said a completely happy master coach Axel Kammerer after the big coup, but also quickly took a look at the decisive final game.
“It was a worthy finale and extremely intense. We didn't lose our head even after the 0-1 defeat. We were the superior team in the second third, but were still behind. But we really wanted it and we actually did it. These will be incredible days in Landshut. Now the Dult starts. “It’s definitely going to be a real disaster,” said Kammerer with a big grin on his face.
Before the party, the ice hockey god had set another 60 dramatic minutes of ice hockey. The EVL fell behind in a completely open opening third when Vogelaar caught Patrick Berger cold in the Landshut goal (14th). However, the goalie was back at his best shortly afterwards and prevented the score from being 0-2 several times during Tillburg's Sturm und Drang phase towards the end of the first period. In the middle third the game became much more balanced again and they equalized with a real stroke of genius. Marco Sedlar poked a brilliant backhand pass from Luis Schinko over the line to make it 1-1 (29'). Both teams continued to duel on equal terms, the almost 3000 visitors saw a passionate exchange of blows in which the EVL also acted very cleverly in the penalty kill. Nevertheless, the Landshut team had to cope with another setback. Max Hermens caught Patrick Berger between the schooners and celebrated the 2-1 (47th). But just 74 seconds later the EVL was back! Max Hofbauer made it 2-2 before the Landshut team took advantage of the moment in the very last power play of the season. Marc Schmidpeter stuffed the disc into the net after Ales Jirik's preparatory work (53'). Now the EVL already had a hand on the trophy and didn't want to let the trophy be taken away from them. Thanks to a courageous defensive battle, the guests hardly allowed Tilburg a clear chance and made everything clear with Schmidpeter's second goal (59th).
The rest was a riot of joy in red and white – and also from the Tillburgers Fans The Landshut ice hockey heroes were extensively celebrated.
“A dream has come true for me. This is simply the result of hard work and, above all, a real team effort. I would like to warmly thank all supporters, sponsors, shareholders, everyone Fan"I would like to thank the community, all the volunteers and my employees in the office, who have done an incredible job," said a visibly moved EVL Spielbetrieb GmbH managing director Ralf Hantschke.
