The German U16 women's national team has won its fifth game at the European Cup. U16 women's national coach Florian Neumayer's team defeated Japan 2-1 (0-0, 1-1, 0-0, 1-0) after extra time.
Japan performed well in the preliminary round, but things didn't go well for the Asians against Hungary. Both teams set a good pace and had early chances to score. After a few minutes, Japan was the first team to exert a little pressure DEB-Team broke free again. Overall, Japan had a slight increase in chances in the first third, but did not score a goal in the first 15 minutes. The first goal of the game came after 18 minutes. Japan came out of the locker room better and Sakura Kitamura took advantage of an attack phase and beat Lilly Uhrmann to make it 0-1. Both teams were then allowed to try to have the advantage and Germany managed to equalize. Linda Topfmeier beat Japan's goalkeeper Yui Nakano with a shot from the blue line (22'). Germany had their first good chances in the final period, but were unable to capitalize on them. Japan held up well. Both goalkeepers had to intervene again and again. There was one outnumbered situation in the final third, in which both teams created numerous offensive actions but failed to hit the goal. It remained a close game until the end, but after 45 minutes there was still no winner. Extra time also brought attacks from both teams. Annabella Sterzik used a counterattack to score the winning goal after 47 minutes DEB-Selection that played the entire game with only three lines.
Germany will play against Hungary for fifth place on Monday at 14.00 p.m., while Japan will face Switzerland in the game for 7th place.
U16 women’s national coach Florian Neumayer: “Today we won against a strong opponent with the necessary luck. Due to imprecise passing and slight mistakes, Japan had many chances, which were mostly destroyed by an outstanding Lilly Uhrmann. In overtime, the team rewarded themselves because they never lost their fighting qualities.”
