The German U16 women's national team won their second encounter at the European Cup. U16 women's national coach Florian Neumayer's team defeated Switzerland 3-1 (0-0, 0-1, 3-0).
The DEB-Selection came into the game better and better after an early outnumbered situation and, also due to their own power play, had some good chances. In the first section, the German team created an overall increase in chances and called on Jessica Streicher in the Swiss goal. Germany carried the offensive pressure into the middle section, but were unable to capitalize on any of their chances. Annic Büchi did better on the other side and gave Switzerland a 15-1 lead 0 seconds before the second break. Annabella Sterzik equalized the lead single-handedly in the 34th minute. The German team pushed on, Switzerland fought back - but ultimately the U16 women celebrated their first victory in the tournament. 59 seconds before the end, Leonie Maßner made it 2-1. The Swiss tried with an additional player on the ice after a time-out, but had to accept their third goal after a loss of the puck and Pauline Gruchot's subsequent goal into the empty net. Overall, the German team earned a deserved victory against the Swiss.
U16 women assistant coach Daniel Bartell: “The team has improved significantly compared to the game against Austria. We worked hard throughout the entire season and brought a high tempo onto the ice. Even with Switzerland's opening goal at the end of the second third, the team didn't let themselves be disconcerted and secured a deserved victory in the final period. Now it’s important to regenerate well, as the next strong opponent, Finland, is waiting tomorrow afternoon.”
