The U18 national team has achieved promotion to the top division! The German team continued its winning streak at the 2019 IIHF U18 Ice Hockey World Championship in Grenoble in the fourth game in the afternoon. Thanks to the 13-1 win against Ukraine, promotion can no longer be taken away from U18 national coach Frank Fischöder's team.
After five minutes of play, Tobias Ancicka first took center stage in the game against Ukraine: Yevhenii Abadzhian secured the puck in his own third and ran freely towards it Berlinhe shot to the goalie, but he parried. The German team was ice-cold in the direct counterattack: Manuel Alberg waited a long time in front of the Ukrainian goalie to take his shot and then scored the opening goal at the right post (5th). Just two minutes later, Jan Nijenhuis made it 2-0 after a collaboration with Jan-Luca Schumacher. Then it happened in quick succession: Within four minutes, Filip Varejcka (11th, 13th and 15th) and Justin Volek (12th) scored to make it 6-0, which also went into the locker room.
John Peterka started the middle period with an eye-catching goal to make it 7-0 for Germany (23rd). In the 24th and 27th minutes, Manuel Alberg and Filip Varejcka increased the score to 9-0. This was followed by goals from Manuel Alberg (31st), Niklas Heyer (33rd) and Lukas Reichel (53rd) to make it 12-0. In the 58th minute, Ukraine got their goal of the day: Dmytro Poperezhai scored for the opponent to make it 12-1. Fabjon Kuqi scored the final point two minutes before the end. The German team not only celebrated the 13-1 win against Ukraine, but also promotion to the top division, which can no longer be taken away with the victory. After the men's and women's national teams as well as the U20 national team, the U18 team is now also playing in the top division!
However, the U18 national team still has one last appearance: In the fifth game of the 2019 IIHF U18 Ice Hockey World Championship, the German team will face hosts France on Saturday from 19.30:XNUMX p.m.
Frank Fischöder, U18 national coach: “We left no doubt from the start that we wanted to pursue our goal and win the fourth game in a row in order to secure promotion. That was a great achievement by everyone involved today! Congratulations to my team and the team behind the team for this well-deserved success.”
Franz Reindl, DEB-President: “Congratulations to the team, coaches and supervisors on today’s fourth win in a row and thus on achieving our big goal ahead of schedule. The boys acted incredibly consistently and goal-oriented at a high level. The promotion to the top division of international U18 ice hockey means another important step forward for German ice hockey this season after the U20 promotion and the seventh World Cup place for women - in line with our POWERPLAY 26 concept. By these players We’ll hear a lot more!”
Toni Söderholm, national coach: "The promotion of the U18 national team is a great success! This promotion is enormously important for the future of German ice hockey and provides incredible motivation. It shows that we are ready for the next level and the challenges ahead. Congratulations to the boys, the coaches and the entire team behind the team - I am extremely happy about this success!"
Stefan Schaidnagel, DEB-Sports director with general responsibility: "Our U18 national team has set another milestone in the spirit of our POWERPLAY 26 concept with its promotion to the top division. After the U20 national team, the U18 is the second selection to achieve promotion to the top division in the 2018/19 season. This shows that the club's support in the young talent area in particular is increasingly bearing fruit. Now it is important to continue on this path in order to be able to celebrate further successes in the future."
