The U18 national team continues its winning streak at the 2019 IIHF U18 Ice Hockey World Championships in Grenoble. The team of U18 national coach Frank Fischöder defeated the Danish selection on Wednesday after being 0-2 down with 5:2 (0:1, 3:1, 2:0).
The Danes got off to a lightning start against the team of U18 national coach Frank Fischöder: Marcus Almquist scored after just 21 seconds to give Denmark the lead. The German team then tried to equalize, but went to the locker room after 20 minutes without scoring a goal of their own. After the break, the Danes repeatedly went to the penalty box. Maksim Popovic, Jonathan Brinkman and Kasper Diedrichsen alone received two-minute penalties in the first six minutes of the middle period. The German U18 team could not score the equalizer, however, and instead conceded a second goal in the 30th minute through Mathias Hansen. The Dane found the gap between the post and goalie Tobias Ancicka after Mikkel Jensen hit the post. Then memories of the German team that had already turned the game around against Norway were awakened: Filip Varejcka (33.), Manuel Alberg (37.) and Nino Kinder (38.) turned the 0:2 into a 3:2. The Danes were on the scoresheet for the first two goals of the DEB-Selection when outnumbered on the ice. In the final section, Jan Nijenhuis (57th) and Tim Stützle (60th) made the German team's 5-2 victory and thus another comeback success perfect.
The German team thus moves away from the Danes, who were currently tied on points, and leads the table with a three-point lead. The next opponent for U18 national coach Frank Fischöder's team is Ukraine tomorrow, Thursday. Face-off time is at 12.30:XNUMX p.m.
Frank Fischöder, U18 national coach: “After a sleepy start, we found our way back into the game. Denmark lost its rhythm in the second third due to indiscipline. In the end we finished the game very maturely. I am very proud of my team. Tomorrow it’s time to continue the tournament positively against Ukraine.”
