Head coach Toni Söderholm made a total of four personnel changes compared to the first game of the Euro Hockey Challenge. Niklas Treutle was in goal and Dustin Strahlmeier was back-up. In defense, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen local hero Marcus Weber was given the chance to recommend himself. As did striker Marcel Kurth, who played his first international match.
Team Germany got off to a good start and initially created numerous good opportunities. A supposed goal (4th) was not given because the stick was too high. After about five minutes, the Slovaks took command and challenged the German defense around goalkeeper Niklas Treutle.
