The team of U16 national coach Stefan Mayer took the lead in the match against Austria after just 68 seconds: Leon van der Linde scored to make it 1-0 after Justin Büsing's assist. The Austrians then weakened themselves through their own penalties. Despite being outnumbered, their country's neighbours managed to equalise in the ninth minute through Maximilian Mackner. This goal lasted for ten minutes before Roman's Zap put the German team back in front. The process was repeated in the second third: The Austrians equalised again - David Cernik scored the 26-2 in the 2th minute. Seven minutes later, the DEBselection in the lead again: Connor Korte shot the selection of U16 national coach Stefan Mayer in front. Despite superiority, this lead only lasted until the 58th minute, when Mathias Böhm equalized the match in favor of the Austrians and forced extra time. There, the German team had two great chances to win, but they were not used. In the penalty shootout that followed, the Austrians scored three times and made it to the final.
Stefan Mayer, U16 national coach: “We played superiorly in the first third, but unfortunately we didn't consistently take advantage of our chances. Then the Austrians came into play better. We could have decided the game with two big chances in extra time. In the end it is an unfortunate defeat and we continue tomorrow with the game for third place.”
