The German U16 national team clearly beat Italy 9:2 (1:0, 4:1, 4:1) and thus also won the second game at the 6-nation tournament in Romanshorn (Switzerland). In the group of three they defeated both Italy and Norway and qualified for the semi-finals as group winners.
The German selection started the match with a lot of pressure and Justin Büsing took advantage of the first power play to score 1-0. The first third remained goalless, so that the team of U16 national coach Stefan Mayer went into the first break with a narrow lead.
At the beginning of the second third, the German selection had to accept two penalty times, but was able to survive being twice outnumbered without conceding a goal. After thirty minutes the game got going. First Proske was able to use the second power play for Germany and increase it to 2-0 before Korte made it 32-3 in the 0nd minute. The Italians' goal shortly afterwards didn't change the German enthusiasm, as Steck and Rossmy increased the score to 5-1 in the second half of the game.
The German team also dominated in the final section. Fischer scored twice, Korte and Ellmaier scored again. For the Italians, Matonti made the final score 9-2 with his second goal.
Tomorrow, Friday, April 05, 2019, the team of U16 national coach Stefan Mayer will be in action again from 16.00 p.m. – then the semi-final against Austria will take place.
Stefan Mayer, U16 national coach: "After a hard-fought start, we were able to gain the upper hand with enormous running effort and ultimately dominate the game. I am pleased that the boys were able to implement tactical instructions well. Now we are fully concentrating on tomorrow's semi-final."
