The German women's U18 national team won 3-2 after extra time (0-0/1-1/1-1/1-0) against Hungary in the third game of the World Cup in Radenthein/AUT. Both teams started the first third with a lot of effort. The German defenders had their hands full with the Hungarians' quick forecheck. The German selection fired the first shot on goal. When Nina Christof's shot was taken, Zsofia Toth was in charge in the Hungarian goal. On the other hand, Sofie Disl kept track of the German goal in the fourth minute of the game and saved against an opponent who was ready to shoot. Shortly afterwards, Franziska Busch's team had to overcome their first outnumbered situation. But the German players stood well in the box, were able to break free again and again and had secure support in Disl. Germany now had more and more of the game, but was unable to get decisively in front of the opponent's goal.
The German team started the middle section powerfully. Luisa Welcke, Nina Christof and Alina Fiedler awarded one after the other. The team sometimes restricted Hungary in the attacking third, but in the crucial moments there was a lack of precision. In the 28th minute of the game, a Hungarian player hit the side netting in front of Disl. Nina Christof failed in the direct counterattack. Two minutes later the Hungarians made it 0-1. Three and a half minutes before the second break, the German team had the chance to equalize with a double majority. And the opportunities were there, but the disc just didn't want to cross the line. Then Alina Fiedler replaced Jennifer Miller and she scored the much-celebrated equaliser.
The German team carried the euphoria of the equalizer into the final period and immediately went on the attack. Luisa Welcke rewarded the team for their efforts and took the lead in the 42nd minute after Sarah Kubiczek's preparatory work. Then she played DEB-Selection continues with a lot of speed and pressure. Shortly before the end, Hungary took a timeout and the goalkeeper came off the ice. After the subsequent face-off, it only took four seconds before the Hungarians equalized to make it 2-2. The German team tried everything again to win in regular time, but they couldn't score a goal. In the following overtime, 37 seconds were played before Jule Schiefer ran up and away and put the disc in the Hungarian goal for the 3-2 winning goal.
Franziska Busch, women’s U18 national coach: “Hungary was the tough opponent we expected today. After yesterday's day off, it was difficult to get back into the rhythm of the game. But the team showed character and morale after the late equalizer and won after a short extra time. We are absolutely satisfied with the third win in the third game and on target.”
