The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) organized a coaching symposium for the first time as part of a U13 World Cup on Thursday, December 2018, 20. 45 trainers from all over Germany took part DEB/IIHF event in Füssen. With the support of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), it was once again possible to attract top-class speakers.
The event was opened by DEB Federal trainer for science and training, Karl Schwarzenbrunner. He focused on combining big data and the latest technologies, in conjunction with the human factor.
“The content of the symposium was chosen to illustrate the advantages but also the disadvantages of big data. What can the technology achieve, where is it still limited and what only humans can do (such as recognizing complex connections, showing empathy, motivating and leading),” explained Schwarzenbrunner.
For this purpose, the speakers Dr. Christoph Rottensteiner (Head of the German-speaking region of the Finnish company Firstbeat) and Michael Elmer (Project Manager at Kinexon) presented the external and internal load data as part of Big Data.
Afterwards, Ben Schulze (Associate Professorship of Didactics in Sport and Health at the Technical University of Munich) gave a lecture in the field of didactics about communication between trainers and athletes as well as trainers and teams.
Following on from this, the sports psychologists Dr. Tom Kossak and Christopher Mächel highlight the most important content in the area of leadership and team dynamics.
Alpo Suhonen (Finnish ice hockey coach and former sports director of the Austrian Ice Hockey Association) explained his individual coaching philosophy to the participants.
Franz Reindl (DEB President and IIHF Council Member) and Petr Briza (IIHF Council Member and General Manager of HC Sparta Prague) presented the IIHF Partnership for Progress program, as part of which the last coaching symposium was created.
“It was great to see which national and international ice hockey greats were very interested in this well-organized symposium of the IIHF and the DEB took part,” said Franz Reindl.
The symposium was rounded off by presentations by Kevin McLaughlin (Senior Director, Hockey Development, USA Hockey) on the topic of player development and by Fabian Pera (NADA), who tested the coaches’ knowledge in the area of anti-doping.
Sports director Stefan Schaidnagel: “We are constantly trying to develop and improve our trainer training. This is also clearly visible in the quality of our speakers. We strive for constant perfection in order to provide our trainers with the best possible expertise. We would like to thank all speakers for their support.”
