The German U20 national team also won their fourth game at the 2019 IIHF U20 Ice Hockey World Championship! At the Federal Training Center in Füssen, U20 national coach Christian Künast's team celebrated a 5:1 (3:0, 1:1, 1:0) win against Belarus and thus took over the lead in the table.
The German team started the game cautiously, especially trying not to give the Belarusians any chances to score. In the fourth minute, Moritz Seider tested Belarusian goalie Andrei Grishenko for the first time. The DEB-Selection was compact in defense and subsequently created further scoring opportunities. Justin Schütz took advantage of one of these chances and scored 1-0 (8th). The German U20 national team continued to be ice-cold: Marco Bassler increased the score to 11-2 in the 0th minute and Tim Wohlgemuth started a solo run just 64 seconds later and finished furiously to give Germany a three-goal lead. Belarus then swapped their goalkeeper: Nikita Tolopilo took over for Andrei Grishenko.
The Belarusian team increased their offensive efforts at the beginning of the middle period and repeatedly tested the German goalie Hendrik Hane, who, however, once again proved to be a reliable support. A shocking moment came in the 27th minute for the German team: Pierre Preto hit the boards after a duel and lay on the ice for minutes. The 19-year-old was no longer able to continue playing after a break from treatment. In the 29th minute, Belarus took advantage of a power play situation to score their first goal. Ivan Drozdov scored after assists from Maxim Sushko and Vladislav Yeryomenko. However, the German team didn't seem shocked afterwards, continued to play their own game and were rewarded in the 32nd minute! Yannik Valenti took advantage of the space the Belarusians gave him, moved towards the goal and put the puck into the net - the 3-goal lead was restored and lasted until the third break.
In the final period, the Belarusians tried everything again and took their goalkeeper off the ice in the 52nd minute when they had the advantage. But the Belarusians were no longer able to catch up, on the contrary: Dominik Bokk even increased the German team's lead to 5:1 (57th), which was also the final score.
The German U20 national team moves past Belarus in the table and will play against France in the last World Cup game in Füssen on Saturday (16.30:20 p.m.).
