The German U20 national team also won its second game of the 2019 IIHF U20 Ice Hockey World Championship. At the Federal Training Center in Füssen, U20 national coach Christian Künast's team celebrated a 1.030-4 (0-1, 0-2, 0-1) win against Norway in front of 0 spectators. The day before, the Young Talent national players had already won their opening game against Austria 3-2 after a penalty shootout.
In the early stages of the match, there were few scoring opportunities on either side. Leon Hüttl tried a shot from the blue line in the eighth minute, but Jorgen Hanneborg in the Norwegian goal controlled the puck. Alex Ehl, yesterday's winning goal scorer, and Colin Ugbekile had further scoring opportunities. The German team took control and was unlucky when Dominik Bokk's shot bounced back into the field from the inside post in the 16th minute. Just two minutes later, however, the 1.030 spectators were able to celebrate: Taro Jentzsch put Germany in the lead with his first goal of the tournament.
In the middle section the DEB-Selection continued to dominate the action and produced scoring chances: Justin Schütz looked for his strike partner Dominik Bokk a minute after the start of the third, who narrowly missed. Tom Knobloch (24th) and Tim Wohlgemuth (29th) had the second German goal with further shots. When both teams had four players on the ice in the 32nd minute, the Norwegians struck. However, the goal was disallowed just seconds later by referee Liam Sewell - skate goal! On the other side, the German team struck ice cold: Nicolas Appendino completed a combination to make it 2-0 (33'). The DEB-Selection became more and more snappy, didn't lose a target and was rewarded again just two minutes later: Justin Schütz shot the puck into the corner after Bokk's assist. Germany created further scoring opportunities, but went into the dressing room with a three-goal lead.
This also presented itself in the last 20 minutes DEB-Selection hungry for goals and only needed 109 seconds to celebrate again: Tim Brunnhuber gave the Norwegian goalie no chance to defend and made it 4-0. As a result, the Norwegians also had several scoring opportunities, but Hendrik Hane kept the scoreline in favor of the German team until the end of the game.
The German team has no games tomorrow, Tuesday, before they meet the Latvian U16.30 team on Wednesday at 20:XNUMX p.m.
