The German U16 national team lost its opening match at the 4-nation tournament in Zell am See (Austria). The team of U16 national coach Stefan Mayer lost to Switzerland 2:3 (0:0, 1:1, 1:2). Tomorrow the team will face Latvia in the second tournament match from 15.00 p.m.
In an even opening third, no goals were scored on either side. It was only after 24 minutes that the goal spell could be broken: Sebastian Cimmerman put the German selection ahead 1-0 after preparatory work by Julian Elsberger and Felix Ribnitzky. By the end of the third, four German players, Marius Winkelmann, Sten Fischer, Leon Steinberger and Felix Ribnitzky, were in the penalty box. The Swiss confederates created more chances, but only found the goal when the entire German team was back on the ice. Paul Daneyrole scored just before the siren to equalize 1-1 (40th minute).
However, Stefan Mayer’s team did not let this deter them and took the lead again: Haakon Hänelt scored for the German selection in the 49th minute to make it 2-1. But when the DEB-Selection was again outnumbered on the ice from the 53rd and 55th minutes onwards, the Swiss struck twice and secured a narrow 3-2 victory in the end.

This was the decisive factor in Switzerland ultimately winning with two extra goals. We now have to highlight the positive aspects, show them to the boys and prepare them as best as possible for tomorrow's game. “
