The German U20 national team also lost the third game of the U20 Summer Challenge. The team of U20 national coach Christian Künast lost 1:5 (0:1, 1:2, 0:2) against Slovakia. Thus ends the DEB-Selection finished the U20 Summer Challenge in fourth place with no points – behind the three teams from the top division. The tournament winner is the Slovak U20 national team, which finished the tournament undefeated.
The Slovakians started the game well and took the lead in the fifth minute through Filip Krivosik. And that was despite being outnumbered. Both teams played with a two-man advantage in the opening 20 minutes. The German team was unlucky: Dominik Bokk, who was recently selected by the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the NHL draft, hit the post twice after German offensive efforts.
At the beginning of the middle section, Alexander Ehl did better. The Landshut offensive player scored an equalizer for the German U20 national team after preliminary work from Tim Brunnhuber. As a result, Slovakia took control of the game and created a preponderance of chances. Martin Fasko Rudas restored the opponent's lead in the 34th minute. Shortly before the third siren, Slovakian top scorer Patrik Hrehorcak made it 3-1. The German U20 national team was unable to use a power play to reduce the score in the final period. After serving their penalty, Slovakia were back on the ice with their full complement and scored again from Patrik Hrehorcak (55th minute) and shortly before the end from Andrej Kukuca to make the final score 5-1.
Christian Künast, U20 national coach: “We deserved to lose by this amount today. There is still a lot of work ahead of us before the highlight of the season, the upcoming World Championships in Füssen.”
