Women's and U18 national teams in the Federal Training Center Füssen / Hinterstocker: "Close cooperation between all three teams" / Voluntary daily viewing of the 2003-2005 vintages
The German A and U18 women's national teams met last week from July 18th to 22nd, 2018 at the Federal Training Center in Füssen to prepare for the coming international season. Women's national coach Benjamin Hinterstocker nominated six goalkeepers, nine defenders and thirteen strikers for the measure. The squad of women's national young talent coach Tommy Kettner included five goalkeepers, eleven defenders and eleven strikers.
Both coaches used the five-day measure to subject the players to some on- and off-ice tests under the direction of sports scientist Marco Dietzel, to assess their ice hockey-specific skills after the summer and to hold discussions with the athletes. In addition, Eckard Schindler gave a lecture on the subject of anti-doping and sports psychologist Tom Kossak spoke about psychological aspects in sport. In addition to the obligatory team and individual photos, video recordings were also made for the club's social media channels DEB produced. On Saturday, July 21, 2018, players born between 2003 and 2005 were given the chance to show themselves to the entire women's coaching team as part of a voluntary day-long screening. Around 40 players found their way to the arena to spend an hour and a half on the ice.
Both national teams have a long season ahead of them. The first test for the U18 women is already on the agenda in August, when the team travels to St. Gallen, Switzerland, to compete in a 4-nation tournament against Russia, Sweden and hosts Switzerland. This is followed by a course in October and another 4-nation tournament in Bad Tölz with games against Slovakia, Switzerland and Japan. Shortly after Christmas, preparations begin for the highlight of the season – the World Championship Div. I in Radenthein, Austria. The German team's opponents in the fight for direct promotion back to the top division are Slovakia, Italy, Hungary, newly promoted Denmark and hosts Austria.
The women's national team will set up camp in Füssen again in August to prepare intensively for the upcoming international season. In October, Switzerland will be guests in Füssen for two international matches, before Benjamin Hinterstocker's team competes against Russia, the Czech Republic and host country Switzerland in a 4-nation tournament in November. In mid-December, the women's national team will travel to Finland for a 5-nation tournament. Their opponents there are the teams from Sweden, Japan, Switzerland and Finland. The traditional Nations Cup in Füssen at the beginning of January has given way to a 6-nation tournament in Russia in February. The German team will face the Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and host country Russia. This tournament is the last international match before the World Cup preparations in Füssen. At the beginning of April, the German team will travel to Espoo/Finland, where the 4 IIHF Women's Ice Hockey World Championship will take place from April 14 to 2019. Group A is made up of teams from the USA, Canada, Finland, Russia and Switzerland. In Group B, Sweden, Japan, Czech Republic, France and Germany play against each other.
Benjamin Hinterstocker, women’s national coach: “The cooperation of all three women’s national teams has been stepped up considerably over the last year. The two coaches of the U16 women's national team, Florian Neumayer and Daniel Bartell, were present in Füssen to have a close exchange. This overarching commitment is essential for the intensive support of the players. It's worth it when you consider that some U16 players have already taken part in the U18 training course and some U18 players have trained with the A team. The level of both courses is to be assessed positively. The players presented themselves well after the summer break and we are more than satisfied with their work ethic. In August there will be time to get ready for the first international matches in October. We will use the time intensively to fine-tune the tactics of the game.”
Tommy Kettner, Women’s Federal Young Talent Trainer: “This course was very important for us as it was the last chance to prepare for the tournament in Switzerland, which takes place very early in the season in August. One or two new players have also recommended themselves for further missions.”
