DEB-Selection competes in Group A / Group opponents include Canada, the USA and host Slovakia / World champions Sweden play in Group B
The German national ice hockey team will compete in Group A at the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia (May 10th to 26th, 2019). In Kosice, the second largest city in Slovakia DEB-Selection on Canada, the USA, Finland, host Slovakia, Denmark, France and promoted Great Britain. The venue in Kosice is the "Steel Arena", which has a capacity of 8.347 spectators.
The preliminary round games of Group B will be played in the Slovakian capital Bratislava. World champions Sweden, Russia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Norway, Latvia, Austria and newly promoted Italy meet there.
“We got a very tough group with three teams from the top five in the world, the home team Slovakia, Denmark, France and surprise team Great Britain,” said DEB-President Franz Reindl on group division. “The best formation and good preparation will be crucial in order to ultimately leave four of the seven opponents behind.”
The tournament schedule will be announced by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) later this summer. Ticket sales start in September 2018. Initial information about the tournament is already available at 2019.iihfworlds.com.
The World Cup groups are divided according to the world rankings, in which the German national team is in eighth place after the World Cup (3.575 points). Canada (3.990 points) continues to lead the rankings. Behind them, after winning the World Cup title again, is Sweden (3.945 points).
