The fourth meeting between Deggendorfer SC and the Tilburg Trappers in the Oberliga final turned into an overtime drama - with a positive outcome for the Dutch, who secured the championship for the third time in a row.
After a goalless opening third, the visitors took the lead in the second half with a goal from Nardo Nagtzaam after an assist from Mitch Bruijsten in the 25th minute. The Dutch goal was also the starting signal for further goals every 2 minutes: First, Kyle Gibbons equalized the visitors' lead (27th minute). Just 35 seconds earlier, Trappers defender Jordy Verkiel had to take a seat in the penalty box - the host's power play formation quickly took advantage of the numerical advantage on the ice. Then things happened in quick succession: Two minutes later, Max Hermens gave Tilburg the lead again. Santeri Ovaska scored another equalizer 120 seconds later. The Trappers then dominated the game, but were unable to win the game in regular time. However, in the following extra time they took advantage of their superiority: the Trappers needed 148 seconds before they secured their third championship. Boet van Gestel scored the decisive goal of the evening after an assist from Nardo Nagtzaam.
