1:2 after a penalty shootout / Only Nico Krämmer scored / Sunday second comparison / Strahlmeier celebrated
The German national ice hockey team has its first appearance in front of their own Fans lost after winning the silver medal. National coach Marco Sturm's team lost to Slovakia on Saturday in Weißwasser 1:2 (0:0; 1:0; 0:1; 0:0; 0:1) after a penalty shootout. Already on Sunday it hits DEB-Selection again to Slovakia. From 17.00 p.m. (live on SPORT1) the players of national coach Marco Sturm will be in action in Dresden.
The Fans The silver medal winner received a rousing welcome in the sold-out ice arena in Weißwasser with 2.750 spectators. Both teams offered the spectators a fast and attractive game from the first minute with chances on both sides. Mathias Niederberger was able to show his class, as was his counterpart Denis Godla. Both keepers kept a clean sheet in the first period.
That's how it looked for a long time in the second half. Niederberger was challenged several times, especially when he was outnumbered, but remained indomitable. It got loud twice more before the last change.
First, as the former WeißwasserFanDarling Dustin Strahlmeier replaced his goalkeeper colleagues in the 32nd minute in accordance with the agreement and was celebrated frenetically, as well as when the national team scored the lead in the power play. Nico Krämmer's shot went straight off the crossbar into the air and bounced off Golda's back into the goal.
The final section began unfavorably for the German team. David Buc was able to defeat the powerless Strahlmeier to equalize 1:1. Even after that, the match remained balanced and intense at all times. Since no more goals were to be scored in regular time, the game went into overtime and then a penalty shootout. Here Martin Bakos made the decision in favor of the Slovaks.
National coach Marco Sturm: “I'm not satisfied, we didn't show what we can do. But it was great how we saw them Fans have supported. There was a lot going on the whole game. Unfortunately we couldn’t give them a win.”
Nico Krämmer (Kölner Haie): “We should definitely improve when we play against Slovakia again in Dresden on Sunday. We have to work harder and, above all, avoid too many penalties. They are quickly punished internationally. Now we have to analyze the match and be better on Sunday.”
Marcel Müller (Krefeld Pinguine): “Ultimately there were too many penalties in the second half that took us out of rhythm. If you first have a majority in overtime and then don’t take advantage of a penalty, then you don’t deserve to win.”
