“I am proud to have been part of the team”
National coach Marco Sturm will have to plan without his goalscorer in the future! For Patrick Reimer (35), the final at the Olympic Games was the last game in the jersey of the German national ice hockey team. At the beginning of the week, the winning goal scorer from the quarter-final against Sweden spoke to national coach Marco Sturm about the end of his international career DEB-Selection informed.
“Now is the right time for me to draw a line under the sun after all the wonderful years with the national team. I also notice that my body can no longer easily cope with the stress of the last few years. I don't want to miss my time with the national team. The last three years in particular have given me a lot of joy. By winning the silver medal, my international career comes to an unforeseeable and outstanding end. Thanks to everyone who has accompanied and supported me over the years. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the boys for the future. I believe that the path taken is the right one. But we should also give the team the necessary time, which they will certainly still need. “I feel proud to have been a part of it,” said Reimer.
National coach Marco Sturm: “Patrick Reimer is one of the best strikers that German ice hockey has ever produced. He always took responsibility on and off the ice. I could always rely on him. Despite his heavy load with many games in the league, he was always ready to play for his country. There are not many actors who pursue their profession with as much passion as 'Reimi'. No matter whether in training or in a game. He was always a role model for the young players. Above all, we will miss him as a person.”
Patrick Reimer was on the ice a total of 105 times for the national team. He had 29 goals and 27 assists. Reimer has competed in five World Championships and the 2018 Olympics.
DEB-President Franz Reindl: “With Patrick, the national team is losing a top performer who had the greatest moments in the most important games, especially internationally. Not many people can say that and he deserves a lot of thanks for that. His decision to say goodbye to the national team after winning the Olympic silver medal is completely understandable.
