The U16 national team also managed to hold its own in the final of the 6-nation tournament in Norway, defeating Switzerland 3-2 (0-0; 1-0, 2-2). The team, led by coaches Stefan Mayer and Norbert Weber, thus secured first place in a tournament with strong international competitors.
Stefan Mayer, U16 national coach: "We were able to celebrate a huge victory against the strong Swiss today. In the final of the 6-nation tournament, we started in a disciplined and compact manner. As a result, a very exciting and balanced game developed. At the beginning of the second period, we were able to withstand a period of pressure from the Swiss and then gained an advantage towards the end of the second period. At the end of the middle period, we were able to score the deserved lead goal. After the second break, the Swiss immediately equalized, but we showed a good reaction. Just two minutes later, we were able to take the lead again with a power play goal. Then, eight minutes before the end, it was 3:1. At the end, it was really exciting again because the Swiss scored a goal one minute before the end, but we were extremely good defensively. The team absolutely deserved to win the tournament through hard work."
