Valenti with the winning goal/ Fischöder: “Deserved victory for our team”
Also in the second game of the 2018 IIHF U18 Ice Hockey World Championship Div. I in Latvia's capital Riga, the German youngsters were the winners of the game in the end. With a 1:0 (1:0; 0:0; 0:0) and a convincing defensive performance, the team was able to achieve a well-deserved victory against opponents Kazakhstan. The day after tomorrow we will face hosts Latvia.
After a mixed first third, Yannik Valenti, who had already scored in the game against Denmark, was able to save the boys under coach Frank Fischöder in the 17th minute and put them in the lead. What began next was a true defensive battle. Both teams were not satisfied with the interim result and pushed for a goal, but were unable to score despite situations with the majority on both sides. In the end it was 1-0 for Germany and a shutout for goalkeeper Florian Mnich, who played a key role in this victory with his extraordinary performance.
Frank Fischöder: It was a hard-fought victory that was absolutely deserved for our team due to a very strong defensive performance in the end.
